Methodios 2 was a monk and a painter; he depicted the Last Judgment on the walls of the palace of the Bulgar ruler Michael (Boris 1), provoking an uprising among the still pagan Bulgars: Ps.-Symeon 666 (διὰ ζωγράφου Μεθοδίου λεγομένου τὴν κρίσιν καὶ ἀνταπόδοσιν ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ γραφῆναι πεποίηκεν), Theoph. Cont. IV 15 (pp. 163-164) (invited to paint a scene of his own choice on the walls of a hunting lodge, provided that it would terrify the viewer, he chose the Last Judgement and depicted the good receiving their rewards and the bad their punishments). The date was c. 864/865. Is this St Methodios (PBE II), brother of Cyril?
