Maximos 5 was bishop of Pisaurum (in Umbria); he attended all five sessions of the Lateran Council, from 5 October to 31 October 649, and in the list of bishops present is named in eleventh place: Conc. Lat., p. 2, line 19 (Μαξίμου ἐπισκόπου Πισαύρου), p. 3, line 19 ("Maximo Pisaurense episcopo") (the first session), cf. pp. 31, 111, 177 and 247 (the Latin version only is repeated for the other sessions). He subscribed the definition of the faith agreed by the Council at its fifth session: Conc. Lat., p. 392, line 9 (Μάξιμος ἐπίσκοπος Πισαύρου), p. 393, line 9 ("Maximus episcopus sanctae Pisaurensis ecclesiae").
