Marinos 13 was the first of the twelve monks (ἀδελφοί) whom Stephen the Younger (Stephanos 2) received under him when he founded the monastery on Mt Auxentius (πρῶτα μὲν ἐδέξατο Μαρῖνον, ἄνδρα τινὰ χρηστὸν καὶ ἐπιεικῆ τὸν τρόπον): Vita Steph. Iun. 110, 19-24 (1097D-1100A). When the number of monks rose to twenty, Marinos 13 was appointed oikonomos of the monastery by Stephanos 2 (Μαρῖνον τὸν θεοστήρικτον ἄνδρα εἰς τὰ τῆς οἰκονομίας καὶ πάντα τὰ τῆς μονῆς ὁ παμμάκαρ προεστήσατο): Vita Steph. Iun. 112, 18-19 (1101A). He alone was taken into Stephanos 2's confidence when Stephanos 2 left the cave, in which he had been living, for a tiny cell: Vita Steph. Iun. 113, 19-20 (1101C). He was charged by Stephanos 2 with helping the wealthy widow, Anna 6, to distribute her remaining property in the district around Mt Auxentius: Vita Steph. Iun. 116, 24 (1108A). He was told to bring Georgios 129 before Stephanos 2: Vita Steph. Iun. 137, 18 (1133B) (τὸν προμνημονευθέντα θεοστήρικτον Μαρῖνον).
