Marinos 9 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal dateable to the seventh or eighth century: Laurent, Vat. 71 (= CIG 9033 = Schlumberger, Sig., p. 457, no. 1 = Ficoroni, Dissertatio, p. 41, pl. XVIII, 1). Obv.: [+]Θεοτο - κε συν το - υιο σου βο - ηθη. Rev.: [+]Μαριν - ω βασι - λικω ς - πθα. This is the text as corrected by Laurent and reads: +Θεοτόκε σὺν τῷ ὑιῷ σοῦ βοήθη +Μαρίνῳ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ. The last words were read by Ficoroni, Schlumberger and CIG as: βασιλικῷ σῷ δούλῳ. See Laurent for the explanation of the ending πθα. Cf. Zacos and Veglery 928 (Marinos 20) for a very similar seal.
