Marinos 2 was bishop of Sardis in Lydia; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at the last ten sessions (from the ninth to the eighteenth, 8 March to 16 September 681): Riedinger II 2. 264-823 (= Mansi XI 380-669). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, and to the Council, he is styled Μαρῖνος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Σάρδεων μητροπόλεως τῆς Λυδῶν ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger II 2. 780, line 17, 823, line 13, cf. II 2. 892, line 5 (= Mansi XI 641, 669, cf. XI 689). In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Μαρίνου ἐπισκόπου Σάρδεων: Riedinger II 2. 264, line 21, 280, line 17, etc. (= Mansi XI 380, 389, etc.). He was among the signatories to the copy of the definition of the faith sent to the bishop of Rome, signing on behalf of himself and the bishops under him: Riedinger II 2. 892, line 5 (= Mansi XI 689).
