Marianos 17 was a spatharios; addressee of a letter from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), of uncertain date; he supported the veneration of icons and was a friend of monks, but was apparently inclined towards a life of pleasure; he was urged by Theodoros 15 to avoid worldly pleasures and devote himself to a life pleasing to God; he is styled ἡ εὐσέβειά σου (p. 664, line 2) and ὁ δεσπότης μου (p. 664, line 9): Theod. Stud., Ep. 464, pp. 664-665 (addressed Μαριανῷ σπαθαρίῳ).
