Maria 10 was the addressee of a letter from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), written between 815 and 820; she is styled τιμιότητός (p. 180, line 2) (and so was probably of high rank); she had devoted herself to a life of virginity and of service to God, apparently in her own home (κατοικοῦσα μονοτρόπως ἐν οἴκῳ: p. 181, lines 31-32); she is also styled τὴν σεμνοπρέπειάν σου (p. 180, line 4) and addressed as ὦ καλλίστη γυναικῶν (p. 180, line 16) and as καλλιπάρθενε (p. 181, line 31); she had previously sent gifts to Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Ep. 66, pp. 180-181 (addressed Μαρίᾳ παρθενευούσῃ). She was presumably a dedicated virgin but not a nun.
