Manuel 9 was a basilikos spatharokandidatos and epi ton deeseon; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century, the first half according to Laurent or the second half according to Zacos and Veglery: Zacos and Veglery 2152 = Laurent, Corpus II, no. 236. The name and titles read: Μανουὴλ βασιλικῷ σπαθαροκανδιδάτῳ καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν δεήσεων. Laurent read only σπαθαροκανδιδάτῳ without βασιλικῷ.
