Maniakes 1 was droungarios of the Vigla (ὁ δρουγγάριος τῆς Βίγλας) when Theoktistos 3 was murdered by Bardas 5, Damianos 2 and Theophanes 7; he protested at first against the mistreatment of Theoktistos 3 but did not interfere when told that the emperor approved: Leo Gramm. 236, Georg. Mon. Cont. 822. The date was 856.
