Manes 2 was one of the strategoi appointed by the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7) in 766/767 (indiction 5) because they were supporters of iconoclasm; he became strategos of the Boukellarioi; the others appointed were Michael Melissenos (Michael 4) and Michael Lachanodrakon (Michael 5): Theoph. See also Michael 4. He may be identical with Manes 1; if not, he was presumably a relation (perhaps a son or nephew). In 772 he was still strategos of the Boukellarioi (τὸν τῶν Βουκελλαρίων with strategos understood), when on orders from the emperor he, Michael 4 and Bardanes 2 marched to oppose Banakas 1 in Isauria; they seized the narrow passes on his route home but were nevertheless defeated by Banakas 1 and routed with heavy losses: Theoph. AM 6263. See Rochow, Konstantin V, pp. 224-225.
