Malchos 1 was a Stoudite monk; he is one of three monks alluded to as apostates in the early ninth century by Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15); Malchos 1 and the two others, Aetios 5 and Petronios 2, were all referred to by the term κύριος (and so were probably of noble family): Theod. Stud., Catech. Magna II 44 (pp. 313ff. Papadopoulos-Kerameus).
