Lydos 1 was a sakellarios (τοῦ Λυδοῦ σακελλαρίου); at the request of Photius (Photios 1) he entered the monastery where the late patriarch Ignatios 1 (died in 877) was buried and drove away from his tomb the sick and feeble who had gathered there seeking a cure, and then gave orders for digging to take place next to the tomb, supposedly because Ignatios 1 had buried a large sum of treasure there; however, as he issued the orders he had a stroke, bled copiously and was carried home dumb, dying four days later: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 565A-B (εὐθὺς οὖν μεγάλα βοῶν ὁ σοβαρὸς οἷα σφαγιαζόμενος, ἄνωθέν τε καὶ κάτωθεν τῷ οἰκείῳ αἵματι κρουνηδὸν περιρραινόμενος, καὶ φοράδην οἴκαδε ἀναγόμενος, ἄφωνος ἐν ἡμέραις τέσσαρσιν ἀπέψυχε τιμωρούμενος).
