Lopichis 1 was the son of Leupchis (who entered Italy with the Lombards under Alboin in 568/569,and who is not included in PBE I); he was the great-grandfather of Paul the Deacon (Paulos 52); he had four brothers; they were all still young when their father died; in c. 610 they were all carried off into captivity when the Avars captured and sacked Forum Iulii; after many years in exile among the Avars, Lopichis 1 escaped and made his way back to Italy, where he returned to the former family home; he restored the old home and married and had a son, Arichis 2: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. IV 37.
