Leontios 5 was a vir gloriosissimus, apo hypaton and domestikos of the Basilike Trapeze; he was one of the laymen who attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council; he only attended those sessions (one to eleven and eighteen, from 6 November 680, to 16 September 681) at which the emperor was present, on which occasions he is named thirteenth and last of the laymen in attendance: Riedinger II 2. 14, line 34, 28, line 3, 36, line 16, 48, line 2, 162, line 5, 170, line 30, 180, line 34, 190, line 31, 262, line 31, 278, line 31, 400, line 31, 754, line 4 (= Mansi XI 209, 217, 224, 229, 317, 321, 328, 333, 380, 388, 457, 625). He is styled Λεοντίου τοῦ ἐνδοξοτάτου ἀπὸ ὑπάτων καὶ δομεστίκου τῆς βασιλικῆς τραπέζης; the old Latin version printed in Riedinger II 2. 15, line 31, etc. (= Mansi XI 210, etc.) calls him "Leontio glorioso exconsule et domestico imperialis mensae". His post was perhaps the same as ὁ ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης, sometimes, but not necessarily always, held by eunuchs; cf. Bury, Admin. System, p. 126 (where the reference to Mansi needs correcting to Mansi XI 209 and the date to 680).
