Leo 284 was a protospatharios and asekretis; addressee of a letter from Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9); he had been asked for help by Ignatios 9 and had tried to do so but without success; Ignatios 9 now explained to Leo 284 that he was depressed because the person on whom he had relied to solve his problems (Anonymus 762) had refused and told him to be patient and wait; Leo 284 is described as one of those who had originally persuaded Ignatios 9 to abandon the peaceful life of a monk and then stood by offering no help when he fell into poverty; finally Ignatios 9 asks that God may grant Leo 284 many years of high offices and dignities (ὑμᾶς δὲ ταῖς μεγίσταις κατ' ἀξίαν ἀξίαις καὶ τιμαῖς ἐμπρέπειν εὐδοκήσοι θεὸς πολυχρονίοις μακρότησι): Ignatius Diac., Ep. 58 (addressed Λέοντι πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ, ἀσηκρῆτις).
