Leo 278 was a basilikos protospatharios and strategos of the Thrakesioi; owner of a seal dateable between the mid ninth century and the early tenth: SBS 3, p. 171 = Sokolova, "Znak sokrashcheniia", pp. 157ff., no. 2. Obv.: patriarchal cross on four steps with a circular inscription reading: Κύριε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ. The text on the reverse reads: Λέοντι βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ στρατηγῷ τῶν Θρακησίων.
