TitlesProtospatharios (dignity)

Leo 266 was a protospatharios to whom the patriarch Photius (Photios 1) wrote a letter urging him to make time to study Scripture and not to devote himself wholly to the physical burdens of his official duties (μὴ τοίνυν στρατείαις καὶ πόνοις σωματικοῖς ὃλον σεαυτὸν διδούς): Photius, Ep. 209 (addressed Λέοντι πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ). The date is uncertain; evidently between 859 and 886.
