Leo 258 is recorded in a number of epigrams written by Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15): Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 93, 106, 107, 109, 114, 115, 120. Husband of Anna 9: Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 114, 115, 120. Father of Ioannes 442: Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 120. He had other children also: Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 115. 4 (σὺν τέκνοις). A patrikios, he was an iconophile: Epigrammata 93 (line 4: Λέοντα πατρίκιον) (on an icon of Christ which he made - τὸν ... εἰκονουργήσαντα με). He was the founder and head of the monastery of Nea Mone (cf. Epigrammata 107, line 1: Μονῆς ἀγαστῆς τῆς καλουμένης Νέας), for which Theodoros 15 composed a number of epigrams: Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 106-110. Together with Anna 9 and Ioannes 442 he also founded the female monastery of Ignai at his own house, which he had previously dedicated to God: Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 114 (title εἰς Ἰγνὰς τὴν μονήν, lines 5-6: ὅλην πρόσαξας τῷ Θεῷ τὴν οἰκίαν, μονὴν γυναικῶν χρηματίζειν αἰσίαν), 120. 8 (lines 7-8: αὐτῆς γε ταύτης καὶ Λέοντος συζύγου, μεθ' ὧν Ἰωάννου τε, φιλτάτου τέκνου). He was buried in the monastery of Ignai: Theod. Stud., Epigrammata 114. He evidently died before 826 (the death of Theodoros 15). See Speck, Jamben, pp. 249ff., 283-296, 294, 303ff., and 310-314.
