Leo 257 was a orphanotrophos; he received a letter of consolation written to him by Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15) on the death of his infant child; the date is uncertain; he had previously lost two other children who also died in infancy; his wife (Anonyma 62) is alluded to by Theodoros 15 as χαρτουλαρέαν (p. 82, line 43) and also as πατρικίας (p. 81, line 18): Theod. Stud., Ep. 29, pp. 80-82 (addressed Λέοντι ὀρφανοτρόφῳ). To judge by the titles of his wife (Anonyma 62), Leo 257 therefore, in addition to being an orphanotrophos, also had the titles chartoularios and patrikios.
