Leo 254 was a monk and follower of the archbishop Joseph (Ioseph 3), he was the addressee of a letter from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15) written in spring 818 praising him for sharing the ordeals suffered by Ioseph 3 during the persecution (under Leo V (Leo 15)); he himself wrote at least one letter to Theodoros 15; in 818 he had only recently become a monk (ὅτι, εἰ καὶ τῷ σχήματι πρὸς ἡμᾶς πτόρθος, ἀλλ' οὐ τῷ τρόπῳ: p. 478, line 4); he is addressed as τέκνον πνευματικόν (p. 478, line 2): Theod. Stud., Ep. 337, p. 478 (spring 818; addressed Λέοντι).
