Leo 227 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century: Zacos and Veglery 2140. The name and title read: Λέοντι βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ. Possibly identical with Leo, basilikos spatharios, who owned a similar seal, also dateable to the ninth century: Laurent, Orghidan 146. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Κύριε βοήθει, with [τω] - [σω] - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: +Λεο - .. βS ς. - θαριῳ -+. The name and title read: Λέο - [ντι] β(ασιλικῷ) σ[πα] - θαρίῳ. The sign like a capital "S" after the Β is probably a mark of abbreviation.
