Leo 118, also called Ptaolemes, was a relative of Photios 1 (Λέοντα ἐκεῖνον τὸν Πταολήμην ἐπονομαζόμενον, συγγενῆ Φωτίου τυγχάνοντα); at the beginning of Lent 866 he was sent with soldiers by Bardas 5 to the island among the Princes' Islands where the patriarch Ignatios 1 was living in exile to watch him and prevent him from celebrating mass or from receiving visitors or going out; the watch was maintained for three months, at the end of which time Bardas 5 was assassinated during the expedition to Crete: Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 536C-D.
