Leo 71 was basilikos kommerkiarios and abydikos (or abydetikos) of Thessalonike; owner of seals, "all dating from the late eighth to the early ninth century" (Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals I, p. 52): DOSeals I 18.4a (= Zacos and Veglery 3134), 18.4b (= Zacos and Veglery 2101d), 18.5a (= Zacos and Veglery 2101b), 18.5b (= Zacos and Veglery 2101a), 18.5c (= Zacos and Veglery 2101c). DOSeals 18.4a and b are from the same boulloterion and read: obv.: Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ; rev.: Λέωντος β(ασιλικοῦ) κουμερκηαρίου (καὶ) ἀβυδητηκοῦ Θεσσαλο[νί]κης. DOSeals 18.5a and b are also from the same boulloterion and read: obv.: Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ; rev.: Λέοντι β(ασιλικῷ) κουμερκιαρίῳ (καὶ) ἀβυδικῷ Θεσσα[λ]ο(νίκης). DOSeals 18.5c is from a different boulloterion but is so similar that it probably belonged to the same official; it reads: obv.: Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ; rev.: Λέο[ν]τως (sic) β(ασιλικῷ) κο[υ]μερκιαρί[] (καὶ) ἀβυδικῷ [Θε]σσ[αλο(νίκησ)]. Another of his seals is Schlumberger, Sig., pp. 739-740, no. 1 (facsimile): obv.: invocative monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with the legend τῷ σῷ δούλῳ; rev.: + Λεων - τος β(ασιλικοῦ) κουμ - ερκηαριου [(καὶ)] - αυλητηου (sic) - Θεσσαλο - νικης. The same person presumably also owned the seal, Konstantopoulos, JIAN 5, 5, dateable to the eighth or ninth century, where the name and title read: Λέοντος βασιλικῷ κουμερκιαρίῳ καὶ ἀβυδικῷ β Θεσσαλ[ον]ίκης (sic). Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DO Seals, I, p. 52, propose the reading αβυδ(ι)κ() instead of αβυδ(ικῳ) β. Another seal of this man listed in DOSeals is Panchenko, Katalog, no. 21, on which cf. Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 126). Cf. also the seals Konstantopoulos, JIAN 3, 21 and JIAN 13 (1911), 31ff.; Mordtmann, "Byz. Molybdoboullon" III, p. 147.
