Leo 65 was lector (anagnostes) of the Great Church (Hagia Sophia) at Constantinople; he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) in 787 and is attested at the fifth session, on 4 October 787; he told how on a visit to Syria with imperial representatives (μετὰ τῶν βασιλικῶν ἀποκρισιαρίων) he visited Edessa and saw the holy icon "not made by hand" receiving honour and veneration from the faithful: Mansi XIII 192 (Λέων ὁ εὐλαβέστατος ἀναγνώστης τῆς μεγάλης ἐκκλησίας τῆς βασιλίδος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως.
