Textual SourcesNikaia, Second Council of (Seventh Ecumenical Council, a. 787) (Mansi XII-XIII) (conciliar)

Leo 45 was bishop of Baris in Pisidia; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) and is attested at the first, second and seventh sessions, on 24 September, 1 October and 13 October 787: Mansi XII 999, XIII 149, 372. In the lists of those present at the first and seventh sessions he is styled Λέοντος ἐπισκόπου Βάρης: Mansi XII 999, XIII 372. Elsewhere he is styled Λέων ἐπίσκοπος Βάρης: Mansi XIII 149. At the fourth session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 149. His name is missing from the list of those at the second session who supported pope Hadrian I's (Hadrianos 1) statements about traditional icon veneration and those at the seventh who subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council; however, he was present at the seventh session and the omission of his name is probably a textual error, since a group of Pisidian bishops are all missing; see Konstantinos 58.
