Lamaris 1's name is variously spelt: τὸν λεγόμενον Λάβαριν, Leo Gramm. 248, Theod. Mel. 173; τοῦ λεγομένου Λάμαρι, Ps.-Symeon 681; τὸν λεγόμενον Δαμάριον, Georg. Mon. Cont. 834. An engineer (μηχανικός), on the orders of Michael III (Michael 11) he removed the corpse of Constantine V Caballinos (Konstantinos 7) from its sarcophagus and took it to the emperor; he probably did the same with the corpse of the patriarch Ioannes (Ioannes 5) and also may have sawn up the sarcophagus of Constantine V Copronymus (Konstantinos 7) for use in the new church built by Michael 11 at the palace at the Pharos: Leo Gramm. 248-249, Georg. Mon. Cont. 834-835, Ps.-Symeon 681. Cf. Winkelmann, Quellenstudien, p. 161.
