Krateros 2 was the strategos of the Anatolikoi when Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite) was in exile: Vita B Theod. Stud. 296B (ὁ τῆς ἀνατολῆς στρατοπεδάρχης ... Κρατερὸς δ' ἦν οὗτος). Elsewhere in the sources he is not named but is identified by his office: Vita B Theod. Stud. 292B-C (τῷ στρατηγῷ τῶν ἀνατολικῶν, ὁ τῆς ἑῴας στρατοπεδάρχης), 296B (τῷ τῆς ἑῴας στρατηγῷ), Vita C Theod. Stud. §§46-50, pp. 286-288 (τῷ τῆς Ἑῴας στρατηγοῦντι, τὸν στρατηγὸν, ὁ στρατηγὸς, τῷ μνημονευθέντι τῆς Ἑῴας στρατηγῷ), Vita A Theod. Stud. 193C (τῷ τῆς Ἑῴας στρατηγοῦντι), 196A (τὸν στρατηγόν), 196C (τὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου στρατηγὸν), 200 A-B (τῷ μνημονευθέντι στρατηγῷ τῆς Ἑῴας), Theod. Stud., Ep. 382 (τὸν στρατηγοῦντα). Informed by the "Asiarch" (Orabe 1) (in 817 or 818) that Theodoros 15 had turned two clergy from Asia against their bishop by persuading them to respect icons, Krateros 2 ordered that Theodoros 15 be flogged; the order was not carried out effectively and Krateros 2 was rebuked by the imperial agent Anastasios 60 sent to investigate: Vita B Theod. Stud. 292B-C, Vita C Theod. Stud. §47, p. 286, Vita A Theod. Stud. 193C-196C. Later (probably in 819) Krateros 2 was ordered to beat Theodoros 15 and his companion Nikolaos 26 after an anti-iconoclast letter written by Theodoros 15 fell into the hands of the emperor Leo 15: Vita B Theod. Stud. 296B, Vita C Theod. Stud. §50, p. 288, Vita A Theod. Stud. 200A-B, cf. Theod. Stud., Ep. 382 (Krateros 2 sent the komes of the korte, Anonymus 661, to beat Theodoros 15 because of the letter).
