Kosmas 27 was a patrikios; entrusted by the emperor Theophilos (Theophilos 5) with the interrogation and torture of the bishop of Sardis, Euthymios 1; on 26 December 831 at St Andreas (in Bithynia) Kosmas 27 treated Euthymios 1 with such violence that Euthymios 1 died: Acta Davidis, Symeonis et Georgii 22 (238, 8-12), cf. Vita Euthymii Sard. (BHG 2145) 18 (p. 45ff.). See also J. Gouillard, "La Vie d' Euthyme de Sardes (+831), une oeuvre du patriarche Méthode", in TM 10 (1987) 10 (where he is identified with either the logothetes, the epi tou kanikleiou or the epi tou manglabitou). His name occurs only in the Acta Davidis.
