Kosmas 5 was bishop of Manoua, also called Kantana and Konana, in Pamphylia; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger, pp. 690-827 (= Mansi XI 615-678). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, he is styled Κοσμᾶς ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος πόλεως Κοτανῶν τῆς Παμφύλων ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger, p. 792, line 1 (= Mansi XI 649). The old Latin version printed in Riedinger calls his see "Cantani ciuitatis Pamphiliae regionis": Riedinger, p. 793, line 1 (= Mansi XI 650). In the list of signatures to the Council he is styled Κοσμᾶς ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος Κοτάνων ἤτοι Μαναύων: Riedinger, p. 827, line 7 (= Mansi XI 677). The old Latin version of this in Mansi calls his see "civitatis Conanensis Pamphyliae regionis": Mansi XI 678. The word Κοτάνων in the Greek is presumably an error for Καντάνων. In the lists of those present at each session he is styled Κοσμᾶ ἐπισκόπου Μαναύων: Riedinger, p. 690, line 14, p. 760, line 24 (= Mansi XI 616, 628). The old Latin version at Riedinger, p. 691, line 14 (= Mansi XI 615) calls his see "Managorum", that at Riedinger, p. 761, line 24 (= Mansi XI 627) calls it "Manaugorum". On the identity of this see, see Ramsay, Historical Geography, pp. 418-419; Jones, Cities, pp. 138-139.
