Kosmas 2 was a stratelates and genikos kommerkiarios of the apotheke of Isauria; owner of a seal dated to the year September 681/August 682: Zacos and Veglery 158 = Oikonomides, Dated Seals, pp. 34-35, no. 21. The inscription reads: + Κοσμα στρα - τηλατου (καὶ) γε - νικου κομμ - ερκιαρι[ου] - αποθηκης - Ισαυρι - [α]ς. The seal is dated to a first indiction and has a bust of Constantine IV (Konstantinos 2) on the obverse and on the reverse busts of the emperor's brothers Heraklios 1 and Tiberios 1. The date is therefore September 681/August 682. On the presence of Konstantinos 2's brothers at this date, see Oikonomides, op. cit., p.35. The title of stratelates was honorific dignity and does not imply that Kosmas 2 had any military responsibilities.
