Textual SourcesNikaia, Second Council of (Seventh Ecumenical Council, a. 787) (Mansi XII-XIII) (conciliar)

Konstantinos 60 was a priest; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council) as representative of the see of Sebastopolis in Armenia Secunda; he is attested at the fourth and seventh sessions, on 1 October and 13 October 787, and was probably present at the last five sessions, from 1 October to 23 November 787: Mansi XIII 140-486. In the list of those present at the seventh session he is styled Κώνστα (sic) πρεσβυτέρου καὶ τοποτηρητοῦ Σεβαστουπόλεως: Mansi XIII 368 (the Latin version, at XIII 367, calls him "Constantino presbytero et loci servatore Sebastopoleos"). In the list of subscriptions from the fourth session he is styled Κωνσταντῖνος πρεσβύτερος καὶ ἐκ προσώπου τοῦ θρόνου τοῦ Σεβαστουπόλεως: Mansi XIII 140. In the list of subscriptions from the seventh session he is styled Κώνστας (sic) ἀνάξιος ἐπίσκοπος Σεβαστουπόλεως: Mansi XIII 385 (the Latin, at XIII 386, has: "episcopus Sebastopoleos"). The name Constantinus is often abbreviated in the text of the seventh session to Constans. Konstantinos 60 is called a priest in the list of those present at the seventh session and it is impossible that he became bishop during it, or that the real bishop, by chance bearing the same name, arrived during it to take his place. The text at XIII 385 is presumably in error. At the fourth session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 140. At the seventh session he subscribed the statement of the faith adopted by the Council: Mansi XIII 385.
