Konon 7 was a patrikios; owner of four identical seals, dateable to the early years of the eighth century (from the presence on obverse and reverse of cypresses): Seibt, Bleisiegel I, no. 135 (one specimen) and Zacos and Veglery 899 (three specimens). Obv.: +Κο - νω - νος between cypresses. Rev.: +πα - τρι - κιου between cypresses. For the date, see Seibt, p. 267. A fifth seal, though clearly not from the same boulloterion (compare photographs in Seibt and Speck), probably belonged to the same man: Speck, Bleisiegel 169. Obv.: +Κο - νω - νος between cypresses. Rev.: +πα - τρι - κιου between cypresses. Possibly the same man at an earlier stage of his career owned a seal of similar character, now in Athens, Konstantopoulos, JIAN 6, 231. Obv.: + - Κο - νω - νος between cypresses. Rev.: + - τουρ - μαρ - χου between cypresses. Seibt notes that the emperor Leo III (Leo 3) was formerly known as Konon, pursued a military career in which he is likely to have held the post of tourmarches, and became patrikios in the reign of Anastasios II (Anastasios 6). His identity with the owner of these seals cannot be assumed but is possible. Cf. Leo 3.
