A nun and kandidatissa, Kassia 2 was the addressee of three letters from Theodore the Stoudite (Theodoros 15), written between 816 and 826: Theod. Stud., Ep. 217, pp. 339-340 (a. 816/818; addressed Κασσίᾳ κανδιδατίσσῃ); Ep. 370, pp. 501-502 (a. 816/818; addressed Κασσίᾳ); Ep. 539, pp. 813-814 (a. 821/826; addressed Κασσίᾳ κανδιδατίσσῃ). She was of good family (ἀγαθῆς ῥίζης οὖσα βλάστημα: p. 339, lines 3-4), and she was a very well educated lady, whose ambition was to follow the life of a nun (καλὸν προείλου βίον διὰ θεόν, ὡς πυνθάνομαι, παιδιόθεν. νύμφη Χριστοῦ γέγονας: p. 339, lines 9-10): Theod. Stud., Ep. 217, pp. 339-340. An iconophile, she helped the imprisoned Stoudite monk Dorotheos 9 and also sent gifts to Theodoros 15: Theod. Stud., Epp. 217, p. 339, line 5; 370, p. 502, line 29. In one letter Theodoros 15 alluded to her mother: Theod. Stud., Ep. 370, p. 502, line 28. He also alluded to her sister and to an unnamed strategos whom her sister proposed to marry (see Anonyma 99 and Anonymus 682): Theod. Stud., Ep. 539, p. 814. She is styled τῆς εὐλάβειάς σου (Ep. 217, p. 339, line 3) and τῆς τιμιότητός σου (Ep. 539, p. 813, line 2). Possibly identical with Kassia 1.
