Itaxes 1 was the ruler of the Alani (οἱ Ἀλανοὶ σὺν τῷ Ἰταξῇ, τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτῶν) with whom Leo 3 (the future Leo III) had dealings under Justinian II (Ioustinianos 1) (in 705/711); he tricked the Abasgi with Leo 3's help and plundered their country: Theoph. AM 6209 (p. 392).
