Ioseph 7 was hegoumenos and archimandrites of the monastery of Herakleios; in 787 he attended the Second Council of Nikaia (the Seventh Ecumenical Council), where he is attested at the second and fourth sessions, on 26 September and 1 October 787: Mansi XII 1111 (Ἰωσὴφ ἡγούμενος τοῦ Ἡρακλείου), XIII 73 (Ἰωσὴφ ὁ εὐλαβέστατος μοναχὸς καὶ ἡγούμενος μονῆς τῆς Ἡρακλείας), XIII 152 (Ἰωσὴφ ἡγούμενος καὶ ἀρχιμανδρίτης τοῦ Ἡρακλείου). At the second session he supported the traditional veneration of icons as described in statements from pope Hadrian I (Hadrianos 1): Mansi XII 1111. At the fourth session he produced a codex containing a Life of Symeon Stylites the Younger: Mansi XIII 73. Later at this session he subscribed the statements read out from the Fathers in support of the veneration of icons: Mansi XIII 152.
