Ioannikios 1 lived on Mt Olympus; in his old age he was visited by Sergios 16, the father of Photios 1, together with his son, and was asked to pray for the boy; Ioannikios 1 allegedly replied that Photios 1 had no wish to learn the ways of the Lord and when he told Sergios 16 what his son would do in the future Sergios 16 poured dust on his head: Ps.-Symeon 669-670 (εἰς τὸν ἐν ἁγίοις Ἰωαννήκιον ἐν τῷ Ὀλύμπῳ). The story is part of an account which is very hostile to Photios 1. Ioannikios 1 is presumably to be identified with Ioannikios 2.
