Ioannes 527 was hegoumenos of Komai; he was the addressee of a letter from Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9), delivered by a self-confessed murderer (Anonymus 755) who having repented and sought asylum in church was sent by the patriarch (unnamed) to do penance in the monastery at Komai under the guidance of Ioannes 527; Ioannes 527 is described as familiar with and a guardian of the rules of canon law; Ignatios 9 alludes to ἡ ἀμίμητος ὑμῶν ἐπ' ἀρετῇ τελειότης and ἡ ὑμετέρα ... εὐμενὴς διάκρισις: Ignatius Diac., Ep. 16 (addressed Ἰωάννῃ ἡγουμένῳ Κωμῶν).
