Ioannes 501 was xenodochos and metator (or perhaps embolator); owner of a seal dateable to the seventh or eighth century: Laurent, Orghidan 319. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with Ι - ω - αν - νη in the corners. Rev.: cruciform monogram interpreted by Laurent as ξενοδόχῳ, with the letters εμ - .. - ατο - ρος in the corners (see Laurent, plate lxviii). The name and titles perhaps read: Ἰωάννῃ ξενοδόχῳ καὶ μετάτορος. The last title could perhaps also be read as ἐμβολάτορος.
