Ioannes 493 was hypatos and basilikos asekretis; owner of a seal dateable to the ninth century: Laurent, Corpus II, no. 38 = Laurent, Orghidan 63. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with τω - δου - λω - σου in the corners. Rev.: Ιω.νν. - πατω και β - σιλικ.α - ικριτη. The name and titles read: Ἰωάννῃ ὑπάτῳ καὶ βασιλικῷ ἀσηκρήτῃ.
