Ioannes 481 was bishop of Gabopolis in Palestine; he attended all five sessions of the Lateran Council, from 5 October to 31 October 649, and in the list of bishops present is named in one hundred and fifth place: Conc. Lat., p. 6, line 34 (Ἰωάννου ἐπισκόπου Γαβουπόλεως), p. 7, line 34 ("Iohanne gabopolitano episcopo") (the first session), cf. pp. 35, 115, 181 and 251 (the Latin version only is repeated for the other sessions). He subscribed the definition of the faith agreed by the Council at its fifth session: Conc. Lat., p. 400, line 33 (Ἰωάννης ἐπίσκοπος Γαβουπόλεως), p. 401, line 33 ("Iohannis episcopus sanctae Gabopolitane ecclesiae").
