Ioannes 402 was basilikos spatharios and droungarios of the basilikon ploïmon; owner of a seal dateable to the late eighth or early ninth century: Zacos and Veglery 2056 = Laurent, Corpus II, no. 950. The name and titles read: Ἰωάννῃ βασιλικῷ σπαθαρίῳ καὶ δρουγγαρίῳ τοῦ βασιλικοῦ πλοΐμου (Laurent read the last words as: τῶν βασιλικῶν πλοΐμων).
