Ioannes 340 was archbishop of Nikopolis (probably in Epirus); owner of seals dateable to the late seventh or early eighth century: DOSeals II 2.11a = Zacos and Veglery 1240 = Laurent, Corpus V 3, no. 1763, DOSeals II 2.11b. The name and title (in DOSeals II) read: Ἰωάννῃ ἀρχιεπισκόπου τῶν Νικωπόλων. Zacos and Veglery, Seals, p. 1956, read the title as: ἀρχιεπισκόπῳ Νικοπόλων; while Laurent, loc. cit., read it as: ἀρχιεπισκόπ[ῳ] τῶν Νικοπολ[ίτ]ων. According to Laurent, op. cit., p. 301, the title archiepiskopos indicates Nikopolis in Epirus, not the other Nikopolis in Armenia.
