Ioannes 339 was hypatos and basilikos asekretis; owner of a seal dateable to the seventh or eighth century, possibly the early eighth (Laurent): Schlumberger, Sig., p. 444, no. 1 (who assigns it to the time of the Komnenoi) = Laurent, Corpus II, no.37 = Shandrovskaia, Pechati, no. 254 = Likhachev, Molivdovuly LX 6 (M-7968). Obv.: inscription in centre, reading +Θεοτ - οκε - +, with circular inscription around circumference reading +βοηθη τω δουλω σου+. Rev.: inscription in centre, reading + - Ιωαν - νη υπ - ατω - +, with circular inscription around circumference reading +και βασιλικω ασηκρητις+. The name and titles read: Ἰωάννη ὑπάτῳ καὶ βασιλικῷ ἀσηκρῆτις. Possibly identical with Ioannes hypatos and basilikos asekretis, owner of a very similar seal dateable to the first half of the eighth century: Zacos and Veglery 869. The name and titles read: Ἰωάννῃ ὑπάτῳ καὶ βασιλικῷ ἀσηκρῆτις. The same man may, according to Zacos and Veglery, have been the owner also of a slightly different seal, Zacos and Veglery 2014.
