Ioannes 335 was a monk; joint-addressee with Abolios 1 of a letter from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), written after the death of Leo V (Leo 15) (therefore between 821 and 826; see Fatouros, p. 206*); they had supported the veneration of icons in the face of persecution (ἐν τῷ σεισμῷ τῆς εἰκονομαχικῆς αἱρέσεως ἄσειστοι διεμείνατε: p. 175, lines 8-9) and were sent into exile during the reign of Leo V (τῇ φυγῇ τὸν τοῦ διωγμοῦ θεομακάριστον στέφανον κομισάμενοι: p. 175, lines 10-11); they were acquaintances of bishop Isaias 3, who delivered greetings from them to Theodoros 15 (Προσηγορίαν ὑμῶν τῶν ἁγίων κομισάμενος παρὰ Ἠσαϊου: p. 175, line 2); they are styled ἅγιοι πατέρες (p. 175, lines 9-10) and ἡ ὁσία καὶ πατρικὴ ὑμῶν δυάς (p. 175, line 4) and so were probably older than Theodoros 15; Theodoros 15 asked for a letter from them: Theod. Stud. Ep. 63, pp. 175-176 (addressed Ἀβολίῳ καὶ Ἰωάννῃ μονάζουσιν).
