Ioannes 285 was patrikios, basilikos protospatharios and strategos of Thrake; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century: Konstantopoulos, JIAN 9, 14a. The name and titles read: [Ἰ]ω[άννῃ π]ατρικίῳ βασιλικῷ πρωτο[σπ]αθαρίῳ καὶ σ[τρα]τιγῷ τῆ[ς Θρ]ᾴκ[ης ]. The restoration of the name is uncertain.
