Ioannes 241 was a supporter of the patriarch Ignatios 1, whose sufferings in exile he is said to have shared; in 867, after the restoration of Ignatios 1 as patriarch of Constantinople, Ioannes 241 was the bishop of Perge (ὁ τῆς Πέργης); he was one of the envoys sent to Rome then to arrange for papal representatives to attend a Council at Constantinople; the other envoys were Petros 74 and Basilios 59; Petros 74 perished on the voyage but the others reached Rome safely, where they found that pope Nikolaos 28 was dead and the new bishop was Hadrian II (Hadrianos 8): Nicetas, Vita Ignatii 544B-C.
