Ioannes 172 was a basilikos spatharios; owner of a seal perhaps dateable to the ninth or tenth century: Ebersolt, "Sceaux byzantins", p. 399, no. 512. Obv.: bust of St Theodoros. Rev.: invocative formula in the name of the Lord, and the legend Ἰωάννης βασιλικὸς σπαθάριος.
