Ioannes 168 was basilikos protospatharios and epi ton oikeiakon; owner of a seal perhaps dateable to the ninth or tenth century: Ebersolt, "Sceaux byzantins", p. 387, no. 451. Obv.: bust of the Virgin with medallion of Christ, and an invocative formula in the name of the Virgin. Rev.: Ἰωάννης βασιλικὸς πρωτοσπαθάριος and ἐπὶ τῶν οἰκειακῶν.
