Vir gloriosissimus, apo hypaton, patrikios and kuaistor; Ioannes 59 was one of the laymen who attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council); he only attended those sessions (one to eleven and eighteen, from 7 November 680 to 16 September 681) at which the emperor himself was present, on which occasions he is named eighth of the laymen in attendance: Riedinger II 2. 14, line 29, 26, line 30, 36, line 11, 46, line 34, 160, line 32, 170, line 25, 180, line 29, 190, line 26, 262, line 26, 278, line 26, 400, line 26, 752, line 25 (= Mansi XI 209, 217, 221, 229, 317, 321, 328, 333, 380, 388, 457, 625). He is styled Ἰωάννου τοῦ ἐνδοξοτάτου ἀπὸ ὑπάτων πατρικίου καὶ κοιαίστωρος: Riedinger II 2. 14, line 29, etc. (= Mansi XI 210, etc.); the old Latin version printed in Riedinger II 2. 15, line 26, etc. (= Mansi XI 210, etc.) calls him "Iohanne glorioso exconsule patricio et questore". At the twelfth session (on 22 March 681) he arrived with documents from the emperor; summoned to produce them, he delivered a message from the emperor and then handed them over and left before they were read out: Riedinger II 2. 522-524, 564 (= Mansi XI 521-524, 545) (Ἰωάννης ὁ ἐνδοξότατος πατρίκιος καὶ κοιαίστωρ).
