Ioannes 54 was bishop of Faustinopolis in Cappadocia Secunda; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger II 2. 690-827 (= Mansi XI 616-678). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism and to the Council, he is styled Ἰωάννης ἐλέει Θεοῦ (Riedinger II 2. 827, line 21 (= Mansi XI 677) reads: ἀνάξιος) ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Φαυστινουπολιτῶν πόλεως (Riedinger II 2. 827, line 21 (= Mansi XI 677) reads: ἐπίσκοπος Φαυστινουπόλεως) τῆς δευτέρας τῶν Καππαδοκῶν ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger II 2. 792, lines 12-13, 827, line 21 (= Mansi XI 649, 677).
